August Hall is a New Mexican native who moved to Los Angeles to study Illustration at the Art Center College of Design. Upon graduating August was hired by Warner Brothers to work as a conceptual artist for Brad Bird's "Iron Giant." August then moved on to Pixar Animation to work on Andrew Stanton's "Finding Nemo", then for Dreamworks and Sony's film "Monster House." Michael Jackson met with August to ask for his input on Michael Jackson's "Ghost" video.
Currently August is working with Penguin Books on a project for acclaimed writer Tom Barron. Past book cover credits include "Gregor the Overlander" chronicles for Harper Collins, and the "Grey Griffith" series for Scholastic books. August is the author and illustrator of a children's book called Song and Juniper and the illustrator of When I Met the Wolf Girls by Deborah Noyes which has just been released.
August's illustrations range from a children's book sensibility, to much darker content. There is an even wider variety of stylistic approach and all of them are imaginative and engaging. One element that seems to weave its way through all of his work is his fascination with textures. August's images are rich with a tactile sense of stone, fabrics, skin, and natural elements like foliage and rain that are represented more as textures than objects.
